August 08: CBM Network launches a new subgroup dedicated towards discussing and facilitating uptake of wireless technologies in the maintenance domain
The new subgroup that was proposed at the last CBM meeting in Aberdeen held its steering committee meeting in Bergen, Norway. The meeting was hosted by StatoilHydro and evoked keen interest from about nine major operator companies. The meeting started with a discussion of current state of application of wireless technologies in the maintenance domain. Participants then discussed their short term and long term visions regarding the role wireless technology can play in future maintenance practices. It was felt that the gap between the ultimate objective/vision and the current state can only be narrowed using a collaborative effort and the CBM network subgroup is an effective way of launching that collaborative effort. The participants discussed the major challenges facing uptake of wireless technologies and their possible solutions. A draft roadmap for technology adoption was then agreed upon, which aims to stimulate the entire wireless technology supply chain and facilitate technology uptake for the benefit of the industry.
After the successful steering committee meeting, the wider subgroup including all stakeholders of the initiative will hold its meeting at Aberdeen in September, at the back of the parent CBM meeting.
